I drew Black Sabbath. I was mainly just looking for an excuse to play with coloring in Manga Studio. I’m only on EX4, but I hear there’s some pretty serious coloring features coming to EX5 later this summer. I’d really like to get Adobe products entirely out of my workflow, given their odious new pricing model.
These started out as four separate drawings in my sketchbook, but they’re all based on a single image of the band that was on the cover of last month’s MOJO magazine.

More musicians from my sketchbook: I drew The Everly Brothers last week and just had a few minutes to a quick scan and color.
I combined those illos I did last week of Stevie Nicks, Mick Fleetwood, and Lindsey Buckingham into one big image, then did some quick digital color.
I did this illo of Steevie Nicks last night and it sold this morning… but I scanned it before I packed it up. Maybe I’ll do something color-wise with it if I get a few minutes to mess with it.
Here’s that Frank Zappa sketch I posted before—but now with some quick Photoshop color. I’ve included the original photo and my drawing at various stages.

One of my favorite music blogs is Aquarium Drunkard, which you can find here. They run a feature called the “Lagniappe Sessions,” in which they invite musicians to do a few covers of their favorite songs just for the site. The most recent one features Medeski Martin & Wood and I supplied this illustration for it..
The original is for sale here if anyone wants it.
